Delete your Mahall account

This page explains how to request deletion of your Mahall account and the data associated with it.

There are two kinds of account

Mahall is used by mosque and mahallu committees. What gets deleted depends on which kind of account you hold.

Mosque account — created by a committee when they register a mosque. Deleting it removes the mosque and all of its records.
Family portal access — used by community members to sign in with a phone number and PIN and view their own family record. Deleting it removes your access and personal details, but not the committee's financial records.

How to request deletion

Send an email to [email protected] with the subject line “Delete my account”.
Tell us which account you are asking about — the name of your mosque, and whether you are a committee administrator or a community member using the family portal.
We will reply within 7 days. We never act on an emailed request alone. An email address does not prove who you are, and deletion cannot be undone, so we verify every request before doing anything:
- Community members — we confirm the request by contacting you on the phone number held on your member record, so that nobody can have your details erased by sending an email in your name. If we cannot reach you on that number we will try once more, and if the number is out of date we will ask your mosque committee to confirm the request instead. Either way we will write back to you within 7 days to tell you where your request stands — a request is never left unanswered.
- Mosque accounts — deleting a mosque removes the records of every family in it, including people who did not make the request. Because those records belong to the whole community rather than to one office-holder, we do not act on a single administrator's request alone. We confirm with a second committee contact, and we give the mosque 30 days' notice before anything is deleted, so the committee can object if the request was not made on its behalf.
Once verified, we complete the request within 7 days for a community member's details. Deleting a whole mosque account takes up to 45 days, because the notice period above has to run first.

What is deleted

If a mosque account is deleted:

Administrator accounts, names, email addresses and phone numbers
Member and family records, including contact details, dates of birth, and any demographic details the committee recorded
Family portal access credentials
Announcements, surveys, meetings and uploaded photos
Staff records, including salary and bank details

If family portal access is deleted:

Your sign-in access to the family portal
Your personal contact details and demographic details held on your member record

What is kept, and for how long

A mosque's financial records are the committee's own accounts, not solely an individual's personal data. If one member could erase them, the committee's books would no longer balance. So when an individual member asks for their details to be removed, the following are retained by the mosque committee:

Donation, membership fee and expense entries. These are the mosque committee's accounting records, so the entries themselves are kept. When we act on your request we remove your name and contact details from your record, so those entries are left showing only an amount and a date.
Marriage certificates that have already been issued, which are official records the committee may be required to produce

When an entire mosque account is deleted, financial records are removed along with everything else, except where the committee is required to retain them for statutory audit — in which case they are kept for 8 years and then deleted.

Removing some data without deleting your account

You do not have to delete your account to have information corrected or removed. Community members can request changes to their own record from within the family portal, and the committee reviews and applies them. You can also email [email protected] describing what you would like removed.
